For the last year I've been using a 'wash out after twenty something days' hair dye on my hair. I adore the colour, but its a nightmare to have to keep redying it every month or less to keep it. My hair is naturally a very dull brown and the dye I use is cherry red. Recently I've asked my parents can I use a permanent hair dying kit instead of the wash out one,but they believe that dying it now,at 15,will result in my hair falling out and thinning when I'm older because I'll have to constantly redye it permanently. However I'm really sick of dying it every few weeks and believe going permanent is the only solution. Plus a permanet colour would be more noticeable and probably of better quality than the one I currently use. I would love a professionals opinion on this,or even just an answer from someone who dyes their hair alot.
By the way,I don't have the money to get it done in a hairdressers, so thats out of the question.
Thanks in advance.
Is it a mistake to dye your hair permanently as a teenager?
No dying your hair with a permanent color will not ruin it or make it fall out. Lightening your hair , like with blonde color, is what damages it because it actually strips it of the color. I'm fifteen and I've been dying my hair for a few years a reddish color. My hair has not fallen out and is still very thick. In fact I stopped dying it a couple months ago and it has fully returned to it's natural dark brown color. If you're alergic to the color (which most people aren't) then you might have some problems but if you've been using wash out you should be fine.
Hair dye from the stores works just as well as the hair dressers and as long as you're just doing your entire head it's not that hard. You should use color care shampoo though and try to cover your hair from the sun if you're out for a long time and in tanning beds. Be careful though not to get it on the carpet while you're dying because that stuff does not come out.

I would do it...
It's true about the damage Though..But it won't be as bad if you don't dye it every month or so.

well no it doesnt thin or anything its the same, it just lasts longer but your roots grow out and it has that line across the top, so id go with the 28 days.

Yah! It's not so bad with highlights but when you're a teenager, this a non-proffesional opinion, your body is changing so much that it's bad to do anything major to your hair like dying it or getting a perm! At least that's what my hairdresser told me!

Is it a mistake to dye your hair permanently as a teenager?
well if you are dying your hair you should do it every 2 months because your hair will dry out and become dull. Alot of people color their hair so your not in danger. just dont try bleaching your hair or dye it a funky color like green.

I dyed my hair regularly since I was a teenager until a couple of years ago and it's all still there. The only mishap I had was applying one dye, found it was the wrong colour and applied another one on top within a few days. I ended up with bald spots but all the hair grew back eventually.
Just make sure you follow the pack instructions really carefully, don't skip the sensitivity test and look after your colour by using appropriate shampoos/ conditioner. It's true that dyeing your hair a lot can weaken it but only if you don't take care of it. My hair is in great condition despite years of dye.

I started dying my hair as a teenager and used to have very thick hair. I am now older and it is thin especially on top. Even if you use a permanent hair color, you still will loose some color because it will fade and you will still be redoing it every 6 to 8 weeks. If I was you, I would stick with the kind you are using.

I dye my hair all the time so maybe a permant color would be your best bet.my hair comes out a little bit but not enough to notice it. (I have been dying my hair for 12 years)you just have to buy a good conditioner when you start using permant hair color.like Herbal Essence or the off brand of it.

Either way, dying your hair damages it regardless if it's permanent or temporary. If anything you're messing it up more because you are dying it week after week so I think you should permanently dye it so you'll do it every other month or so.Just Buy a really good conditioner for your hair and wash it weekly....PANTENE is pricey, but THE BEST. Your hair will be smooth and beautiful. They have all choices for whatever hair you have....Curly,Straight...more volume...less volume...Thicker..Thinner...EVERYTHING! Try it out, I guarentee you'll be able to dye your hair and with a couple of washes with Pantene conditioner and Shampoo it'll be GLAMOROUS! They even have ones that make the color stay longer! And They work.
