Does applying hair dye to really oily hair make a difference in the final product?

i wanted to use the box hair dye to dye my hair tonight but its oily and your not supposed to wash it before you dye it. so i was wondering if that would be okay, would it make a difference in how it turns out?

Its better to have it oily before you dye it, it doesn't affect how it will look but it will protect your scalp/

YES IT DOES. I AM A LICENSED COSMETOLOGIST AND ALTHOUGH COLOR SETS WELL IN DIRTY HAIR IF IT IS THAT OILOY YOU SHOULD WAIT A WEEK AND WASH YOUR HAIR IN DAWN DISHSOAP TO TAKE THE OIL OOUT AND THEN APPLY THE HAIR COLOR.

box hair dye works better on greasy oily hair, so go for it , it will turn out the best this way! and feel soft and have body

Actually your hair should be clean from oils and hair products before coloring your hair otherwise the color molecules will not attach to the hair shaft. If you are decolorizing (bleaching) your hair that is the only time i would recommend having any oil in your hair. It helps to lessen the damage on your hair.

yes it does. i have really oily hair and i find it best to wash my hair the night before i want to dye it.

always dye with dirty hair! i always wait at least 2 days of not washing before i dye - the oils protect your scalp from harm!
