Hair Dye Safety?

I want to dye my hair for the first time but I have heard it's not good for your hair. Is this true? (safety wise) *!Does it make a difference if I dye it from the box or professionally?*!

Hair Dye Safety?

I asked this question of if hair dye is safe to myself a while back. I found some research that when people dye their hair on a regular basis this increases their risk of lymphoma cancer by 20%. It damages your hair and the ammonia in it makes your hair thinner, brittle, and easier to fall out. If you can't use something while you are pregnant, such as hair dye, this should show you that it is not good for you. Your skin is your biggest organ on your body and the dye is absorbed through your scalp. I use natural hair dye called henna, which is from a plant. It works well and actually improves the health of your hair.

Hair Dye Safety?

This is not actually true. PROFESSIONAL dyes are now so advanced, they don't damage your hair, they leave it in even better condition. Henna is impossible to penetrate, leaving you without the ability to change the color until the treated hair grows out and is cut off. Report It

On another note, I know many stylists who have colored their hair, and worked until full term in salons while pregnant, and went on to have very healthy babies. It' not recommended to dye your hair during pregnancy is that the hormones produced during pregnancy prevent guaranteed results. Report It

YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF. IT'S A LOT CHEAPER. JUST CONDITIONER YOUR HAIR AFTER SHAMPOO'S AND DON'T WASH IT EVERY DAY AND DON'T OVER BLOW DRY OR USE THE CURLING IRON. HAVE FUN.

its ok as long as u follow the directions on the box to a T dont wash your hair before putting the hair color on it'll burn also rub vaseline around your edges and on your ear so the color doesnt stain your skin....good luck

I dye my hair once a month.

BUT....my hair seriously can take a beating..I even had my infant son hang from it!

If your hair if very fine or brittle I would have it done professionally so they will take the necessary steps to protect it from unnecessary damage.

Hair Dye Safety?

It can damage your hair because it's chemicals, bleach etc,my hair is ruined and thats why i dont dye it anymore.

Hair Dye Safety?

yeah it is. how old are you? cuz you really shouldn't start dying your hair, especially if you're pretty young. cuz then you'll just have to keep dying it and it will damage your hair, sowly but surely. and if you straighten it too; that's even worse! anyways, hope that helpss.

you can safely dye your hair at home, just be sure to follow the directions exactly. L'Oreal has a really good after-color conditioner that comes with it, and there's enough to condition your hair once a week til you need to dye it again. No sense in paying all that money for a professional, just pick a color that's not too drastically different than your own color. (don't pick ultra light blonde if your hair's naturally black, for instance.) stay within a few shades up or down from your natural.

it is true that dying your hair dries out your hair. I would recommend dying your hair professionally, because a box sometimes has chemicals that ruin your hair even more, and it fades out your hair. If you do it professionally, tell them to use a healthier product to dye your hair.

It does damage your hair, if you do it, just don't do it too often. If you want a drastic color change then get it done professionally, box colors are pretty generic and don't cater to a persons needs individually (ex., if your hair is fairly dark and you want to lighten it a lot, you could end up with an orange mess). If it's just a slight change of color(ex., you have brown hair and want to make it a little lighter, darker, a little auburn) then you shouldn't have a problem with a box color, even a semi-permanent would work well for that, it all depends on the color you want to go with, personally I started with semi-permanant hair color.

I am a liscenced hairdresser and I strongly recommend that you do not use over-the-counter products to dye your hair. The reason is that most (if not all) of these products contain ingredients that coat your hair, rather than penetrating your hair. The result is that the next time you want to chemically treat your hair, the new chemical will not be able to get through this 'layer' and do its job properly. Another reason for not using these products is that they often have ingredients that conflict with each other, which can cause severe damage to your hair. No two people have the exact same hair, therefore there is no 'one size fits all' treatment for everyone's hair. See your stylist, he/she has been expertly trained and can advise you how to SAFELY achieve your desired results. If cost is an obstacle for you, check to see if there is a beauty school near you. Most beauty schools offer a wide range of services, while charging you only for the products that they use. A lot of people are afraid to have their hair styled at a school because they're afraid that the students will 'mess it up'. This is generally not the case. Students are closely supervised by experienced teachers, and everyone has to start somewhere, right? Even the greatest of hairdressers were students at one time, and we are all grateful for the opportunity to practice. Best of luck to you!

I use an old technique called a beauty wash. I use the cheapest Clariol Balsam dye and mix it, then pour half of the dye misture down the sink and fill the bottle back up with a good shampoo. I then apply it and leave it for 20-30 mins like the instructions say. After that, I rinse it out, shampoo again and condition. When it grows out, it fades more than grows from the roots making it very easy to re-do using the same process with very little damage to the hair. I am only going a shade or two lighter than my natural color but I never have roots showing and it is incredibly inexpensive. Plus after you do it a couple of times and save the bottles (wash them out good) you do not have to pour half down the sink, just only mix half at a time with the shampoo. It costs me less than $2 each time I color. This does not last as long as regular hair dye - only about 3-4 weeks but it does not damage your hair as much and it is easy and cheap to redo often.
