Ammonia in hair dye?

I've just dyed my hair from dirty blonde to light blonde. It looks great and I'm really pleased with the result. However, I read that it has ammonia in it. So I have two questions:

When it starts growing out, can I dye my hair darker again, to my natural colour, or will the ammonia react with the dye and cause my hair to turn green?

Also, can I go swimming? I once heard that ammonia and cholrine don't go well together....

Thanks all.

Ammonia in hair dye?

Well, you can of course dye your hair darker,to your natural colour the ammonia was only here to help you to dye your hair, once done it does not contribute to anything.

You can go swimming. Don't bother as a chemist student i can tell you that the ammonia won't react with the chlorine. Once you washed your hair after dyeing it, its okay.

Ammonia in hair dye?

its not the ammonia that makes your hair go green and DONT just dye your hair back a darker colour!

The reason blonde goes karki green if you dye it brown is because there is no red pigment being replaced ( try mixing brown paint with yello and see what result you get!)

If you want to dye it back darker then go to a salon and speak to a colour techie like myself.... but remember if you dye it back darker, its gonna be a big job and knacker your hair if you want to go blonde again after that! Maybe naturalising would be a better idea.

If your hair does go green in the pool by the way tomato ketchup is the best thing for counteracting it ( sounds crazy I know but it is), wash your hair then then run the ketchup through it, rinse then condition. You might need to do more than one application.

Hope that helps
