Remove hair dye from scalp?

I just dyed my hair red (at home) and I have stains on my scalp. ive already washed my hair (per the dye instruction), and dried my hair.....what do i do?? I used vaseline around the hairline, so the stains are only on my scalp and are very visible.

Some people are more susceptible to stains than others. If your skin/scalp is dry, it will have a tendency to stain more than someone who has oily skin/scalp. At this point, all you can really do is scrub, scrub. See if there is an 800 number on the box and see what they would suggest.

In the future, when it comes time to wash the color out of your hair, add just a little bit of water to your head, and emulsify the color (looks like a "color cream") and rub your hairline and scalp well before you thoroughly rinse the color out. There is something about actually using the color with JUST A BIT of water to emulsify it, and it usually will not stain if you use this method. Once you are sure you got the stains away from your hairline (it's a bit hard to tell because you have so much of the "color cream" rubbed around, but only then, thoroughly rinse out the rest of the color and THEN shampoo. Once shampoo hits the color that is on your scalp, it is kinda hard to get it off after that and just has to wear off in a couple days. You can help by scrubbing hard, but you still can have a shadow of it there. Sorry I can't be more help, but maybe better luck in the future!

Not so easily done, I use professional hair dye and I have to wait atleast a day before the stains completely go away. Try alcohol? Otherwise you can scrub (like I do) until the spots are "less" visable. I usually try to wear my hair down so you can't see the spots unless they are REALLY bad, maybe next time you should wipe the dye as SOON as it falls on your skin? You should definetly SCRUB away the dye as soon as possible next time. Otherwise, good luck! If you get it in your clothes, try Murphy's Oil Soap... apply a small amount on the stained spot and scrub away.... : ) Rinse with warm water and wash immediatly. I hope this helps you!

If it was a dye from a company that has a hotline number on the box I would call them. If it was some weird junk type dye it may just take a few washings to get it out. Good luck, hope it works out.
